PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positioning apparatus for an optical modulator which can reduce occupancy space and can precisely position the optical modulator. SOLUTION: The positioning apparatus is provided with a reflecting device 60 which reflects projection light projected from a light source unit through a projection lens 160 toward a screen 53. The reflecting device 60 is arranged at a correct position to a projection lens 160. A projection distance to the screen 53 from the projection lens 160 through the reflecting device 60 is the integral multiple of the distance between the reflecting device 60 and the projection lens 160, the projection distance can accurately be set, thereby the precision of positioning is improved. The projection distance according to the model of an optical unit can easily be set by enabling the approaching and distancing of the reflecting device 60 relative to the projection lens 160.
