PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To monitor the light receiving level of a position recognition device 12, issue an alarm when the light receiving level is at a predetermined value or lower, and finding a position from a travel amount accumulated by an encoder 10 using an absolute position found before as a reference for continuous travel when the position recognizing device cannot detect the position to be recognized. SOLUTION: There is no case of impossible operation of a stacker crane due to sudden stop of position recognition with the position recognition device 12.
