PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink-jet recording apparatus and a recovery method for a recording head, capable of eliminating generation of ejection failure by reducing the waiting time provided before preliminary ejection after wiping to the minimum necessary level, and efficiently executing wiping and preliminary ejection operations without lowering the throughput as much as possible. SOLUTION: In an ink-jet recording apparatus comprising a recording head 1 having an ejection opening for ejecting an ink to a material to be recorded, a wiping means for wiping the ejection opening surface of the recording head, and a preliminary ejection means for ejecting an ink from the ejection opening regardless of the operating operation to the material to be recorded, an EEPROM (memory means) 46 for storing the use frequency of the recording head 1 and an MPU (determination means) 42 for determining the waiting time after a wiping operation of the ejection opening surface of the recording head 1 by the wiping means based on the use frequency of the EEPROM 46 are provided so that a preliminary ejecting operation is executed after the waiting time determined by the MPU 42 from the wiping operation. |
