PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an austenitic heat resistant tube which has excellent creep rupture strength, and has no rapid deterioration in strength even on the long time side when used for a heat resistant steel tube such as a steel tube for a boiler. SOLUTION: In the method for producing an austenitic heat resistant steel tube having excellent creep rupture strength on the high temperature-long time side, a steel having a composition containing, as chemical components, by mass, 0.01 to 0.2% C, 0.05 to 0.5% Si, 0.1 to 2% Mn, 17 to 26% Cr and 10 to 50% Ni, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities, and satisfying the following inequality (1) is made into a tube. After that, the tube is subjected to solution heat treatment, and is subsequently subjected to cold working of 1 to 25% at a rate of decrease in the C cross section: Ni+30C+0.5Mn>=1.8×(Cr+1.5 Si-8)...(1).
