Detecting hydrogen sulphide in reservoir fluids

Corrosive hydrogen sulphide is detected in reservoir fluids using a downhole tool which includes at least one sample of material which undergoes a visually or optically observable change when exposed to any hydrogen sulphide. Typically the material is in the form of a coupon fabricated from monel, cupronickel, steel or other alloy. Alternatively, the material may be a polymer tape carrying lead acetate detecting reagent overlaid by a polymeric diffusion barrier.
