PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic still camera with a flash light emitting function and its control method which can accurately control the quantity of light in minute light emission and hold the color temperature of an image obtained in the minute light emission mode equal to that in normal stable light emission. SOLUTION: A digital camera 10 controls a flash light emission control part 200 in response to the control signal 16c from a system control part 16 and the flash light emission control part 200 controls a light emission part 202 to emit flash light; and a photodetection part 204 measures the resulting incident light from a subject 100 and the flash light emission control part 200 controls the timing of the start of the integration of the obtained electric signal and image pickup operation for the incident light and the timing of the end of the integration of the electric signal and the image pickup operation for the incident light responding to a light emission stop signal 20c from a comparator 210 to control an accurate quantity of emitted light in a stable period while avoiding a light emission period wherein the flash light emission is unstable.
