PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hydrogen occlusion alloy which has homogeneous structure and characteristics. SOLUTION: A nickel-based hydrogen occlusion alloy raw material is melted, and the obtained molten metal is flowed into a mold, and is rapidly cooled. The obtained alloy is pulverized into alloy powder, and the alloy powder is classified. The classified alloy powder is heat-treated at 1,000 to 1,200 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere. By the classification of the alloy powder, the diffusion of the atoms is limited within a fixed range, and also, by performing the heat treatment at the high temperature, the atoms are actively moved in a limited volume, and, even if a segregation phase is present, the segregation phase is recomposed into a more stable crystal structure. In this way, a homogeneous alloy structure free from segregation phases can be obtained.
