PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an H steel beam capable of assuring a high unity with concrete, improving the workability of surface preparation after excavation, and realizing the cost down by decreasing the thickness of RC wall and the amount of bars arranged and a construction method for an underground structure using the H steel beam. SOLUTION: A linking portion 5 formed on the surface of the flange 3 of the H steel beam 1 is protected by a peelable covering member 7 as an antifouling means. After erecting the H steel beam 1 in a muddy water ground excavation gutter 10, the inner side ground of each H steel beam 1 is worked by a cut-and-cover method, and the flange surface side protected by the covering member 7 is exposed and an earth retaining wall 20 is built. After building this wall 20, the covering member 7 is peeled off and removed and the linking portion 5 is exposed, then the RC main body wall to be built adjacently can be united to one body by pouring RC main body wall.
