PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a resin composition which is used for cation electrodeposition coatings, has excellent low temperature curability without using a blocked polyisocyanate compound and an organic tin compound, can form coating films having excellent corrosion resistance, adhesivity, weather resistance, and coating surface smoothness, and has good coating stability and coating workability. SOLUTION: This resin composition for cation electrodeposition coatings is characterized by containing as main components (A) a resin containing hydroxyl groups and cationic groups and (B) an epoxy group-containing vinylic polymer resin having a number-average mol.wt. of 300 to 3,000 and prepared by polymerizing (b-1) 50 to 100 pts.wt. of an epoxy group-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer with (b-2) 0 to 50 pts.wt. of another polymerizable monomer capable of being copolymerized with the monomer (b-1) by a catalytic chain transfer polymerization method.
