Benzimidazol-isoindolenine dyes

Benzimidazole-isoindolenine compounds of formula (I) and their tautomers are new; in which A = nitrogen (N) or cyanomethylene (=C(CN)-); R<1> = an optionally substituted 4-20 carbon (C) aliphatic group, optionally with oxygen (O) atom(s) in the chain; R<2> = hydrogen (H) or R<2>'; R<2>' = halogen, 1-4 C alkyl, 1-4 C aliphatic oxy group (optionally substituted by 1-4 C alkyl), cyano (CN) or nitro (NO2); provided that R<2> does not = H if R<1> = n-butyl. Also claimed are (i) benzimidazole amino-isoindolenine compounds (II); (ii) n-butyl 3-(benzimidazol-2-yl-cyanomethylene)-isoindolenin-1-yl-cyanoacetate (IA) of formula (I; A = =C(CN)-; R<1> = n-butyl; and R<2> = H) in its alpha -, gamma - and/or epsilon -crystal modification; and (iii) mixtures of compound(s) (I) and other dye(s) normally used for dyeing standard materials for cars.
