POLARIZATION INTERFERENCE DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization interference device which can easily generate a photon-number squeezed light. SOLUTION: A 1/2-wavelength plate 1 converts linear polarized pulse light into two polarized light components which differ in intensity by rotating it by a specific angle, a 1st polarization holding optical fiber 2 propagates the two polarized light components to impose phase self-modulation depending upon the intensity, and the output light of a 2nd polarization holding optical fiber 3 which has the same length and characteristics with the 1st polarization holding optical fiber 2 and is connected to the 1st polarization holding optical fiber 2 in series while having the angle rotated by 90 deg. is rotated by a specific angle; and then a 1/2-wavelength plate 4 and a polarized light demultiplexer 5 extract only one polarized component of the output light to obtain the photon- number squeezed light.
