PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earth pressure balanced shield machine which promotes the fluidity of excavated earth near the center of a cutter head to smoothly take the excavated earth into a cutter chamber, to thereby reduce a cutter torque and the total driving force of the shield machine. SOLUTION: The earth pressure balanced shield machine is constructed such that a bulkhead 2 is arranged at a front end of a main body barrel, and that the cutter chamber 5 is defined between the bulkhead 2 and the cutter head supported for rotation by the bulkhead 2, whereby a cutting face is pressed by the excavated earth taken into the cutter chamber 5. According to the earth pressure balanced shield machine thus constructed, injecting devices 13, 19a to 19c for injecting high pressure water toward a portion near the center of the cutter head are provided.
