PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet head which is compact and exerts a good ink discharge performance by forming a discrete electrode opposite to a diaphragm to 0.8-0.5 times as wide as the diaphragm and deforming the diaphragm by a low voltage appropriately. SOLUTION: A sealed actuator 14 of the ink jet head 1 has the diaphragm 6 set to a part of each liquid chamber 8 to which ink is supplied through a liquid resistor 9 from a common ink channel 10, and the discrete electrode 4 arranged opposite via a predetermined gap to each diaphragm 6. The discrete electrode 4 is formed to 0.8a-0.5a times as wide as the width (a) in a short side direction of the diaphragm 6. Therefore, the volume of the actuator 14 is increased at a part immediately below the diaphragm 6, thereby suppressing a pressure rise generated inside the actuator 14 when the diaphragm 6 is deformed towards the discrete electrode 4. The diaphragm 6 is deformed stably by the low voltage, so that a stable performance for discharging ink drops is realized. High-speed recording is thus enabled, and at the same time, the image quality of recording images can be improved.
