PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a practical molten salt type catalyst which can burn/remove PM even in a low temperature area and can be arranged stably in a car exhaust system. SOLUTION: The catalyst is composed of a solid carrier and a catalyst component containing at least one selected from silver nitrate, an alkali metal nitrate, an alkaline earth metal nitrate, and a rare earth metal nitrate, which are supported on the solid carrier. Since the salt is melted at the temperature of exhaust gas from a car diesel engine into a liquid phase, the contact of the salt with PM is promoted to generate the combustion of PM. The liquid phase of the salt makes PM be collected easily to increase the probability of the contact. In this way, PM can be burned efficiently to be removed. |
