PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently identifying a bread of bovine serving as beef using commercial beef as specimen. SOLUTION: This method for identifying beef is based on the finding of a single nucleotide polymorphism that permits easily discriminating black-hair cattle and Holstein, which need to be identified as beef cattle, with the single nucleotide polymorphism being utilized as gene probe or primer for the gene amplification.
