摘要 <p>The invention relates to a method for determining the position of a piston (5) of a 1 cylinder high pressure pump (1) of a fuel metering system of a direct injection internal combustion engine in relation to the angular position of the crankshaft of said internal combustion engine. The quantity transported by the high pressure pump (1) is regulated through a controllable quantity control valve (10; 10 ). The invention provides a simple and effective method enabling the position of the piston in a finished, mounted internal combustion engine to be determined in relation to the angular position of the crankshaft. Said method comprises the following steps: operating the internal combustion engine with an essentially constant accumulator pressure (pr) in a pressure accumulator of the fuel metering system; specifically controlling the quantity control valve (10; 10 ) with an impulse (A1; A2), producing a variation of the accumulator pressure (pr); measuring the accumulator pressure (pr); and determining the angular position of the crankshaft for the position of the piston (5) from the beginning and end of the variation of accumulator pressure (pr) in the pressure accumulator.</p>
