PURPOSE:To enhance the oil resistance and water resistance of a thermal recording material by providing a thermal color forming layer based on a leuco dye and a developer and containing a block copolymer of polyvinyl alcohol and polyacrylic acid on a support. CONSTITUTION:Predetermined amounts of a leuco dye, a developer and a copolymer of polyvinyl alcohol and polyacrylic acid are dispersed in an aqueous solution of polyvinyl alcohol to prepare a coating solution for a thermal color forming layer. This coating solution is applied to a support such as paper or synthetic paper and dried to form the thermal color forming layer to obtain a thermal recording material. Further, an overcoat layer can be laminated to the thermal color forming layer and a block copolymer of polyvinyl alcohol and polyacrylic acid can be added to the overcoat layer. As the leuco dye, for example, a triphenylmethane or fluorane type compd. is used and, as the developer, a phenolic compd. or a thiophenolic compd. is used. |
