SOLUTION: A pair of upper and lower conical edger rolls 4A, 4A for performing height reduction in the axial direction of a material 1 to be rolled are composed of the assemblies of a plurality of concentric truncated circular conical divided rolls 4a-4f which are divided in the axial direction. Driving force is transmitted to only a divided roll which is overlapped on the top and bottom surfaces of the material 1 to be rolled among these divided rolls 4a-4f and the divided rolls situated in the positions other than the top and bottom surface area of the material 1 to be rolled are made to be free.
