<p>A wall and handle structure assembly (50, 21) is adapted for use in a crate (10) for holding containers. The crate (10) has an integrally formed bottom portion (20) and wall structure (21) which define a container-holding compartment (32) therein. The wall structure (21) includes a first pair of opposed side walls (12, 16) and a second pair of opposed side walls (14, 18). The wall and handle structure assembly includes a lower wall member which has a single-wall thickness and defines at least one of the first pair of opposed side walls. The assembly also includes a handle structure (50) which has an outer handle member (58) and an inner handle member (52). The outer handle member (58) is disposed in the lower wall member, and the inner handle member extends into the compartment and is attached to the outer handle member to define a finger receiving area (60) therebetween. The outer handle member (58) further has a lower surface (66), wherein the lower wall member, the lower surface of the outer handle member (66), and the bottom portion (20) define a hand-opening area (68) which extends into the compartment to allow for handling the crate.</p> |
