<p>A method of substituting fluorine for the or each chlorine atom in a compound of the formula: R<1>R<2>X<1>C-O-CX<2>X<3>H in which formula: (a) X<1>,X<2> and X<3> are each independently selected from hydrogen, chlorine and fluorine atoms; (b) at least one of X<1>,X<2> and X<3> is a chlorine atom; (c) R<1> and R<2> are independently selected from an hydrogen atom; a halogenated methyl group, and a halogenated ethyl group; (d) at least one of R<1> and R<2> is a halogenated methyl group or a halogenated ethyl group wherein sodium fluoride or potassium fluoride is reacted with said compound at a temperature and an elevated pressure in the absence of added solvent.</p> |
