PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a file managing method which can minimize seeking operation even when a UDF file system is used. SOLUTION: This file managing method has file management information for managing successive blocks on a disk as extent, grouping and managing the extents as a file. When a directory is newly generated on the disk, a file or data area is secured as a reserved area for recording file management information on a file in the directory and a file entry of the directory and a file identification descriptor of the directory are secured as a directory block having specific size in the reserved area.
