PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a water leak-preventing agent which can simply close a water-leaked site in an excellent water-leaked site-closing ability without needing much time and labor for application and without deteriorating the appearance of a building. SOLUTION: This water leak-preventing agent contains (a) a highly water- absorbing polymer and a water-absorbing natural polymer and (b) an alkylene glycol derivative having >=2C repeating units as essential components, and a storage stabilizer and/or a gelling agent for the component (s) as arbitrary components. The water leak-preventing agent can be coated or impregnated into a sponge-like article, string, rope, film, sheet, fabric, nonwoven fabric, paper or the like and then used.
