Fluid films are formed between the plane faces of the roller (40) and of support members 12, 13 and between the roller and a shaft (41) extending coaxially through it. Water is supplied along channels 18, 19 in arm 14 which each branch into three ducts 26, (27), 28 which supply arcuate recesses 16 in surfaces 15. Channel 18 extends into member 12 and communicates with axial core (51, Fig. 9, not shown) in shaft (41) which supplies water via radial bores (54) to recess (53) in shaft (41). Restrictors may be disposed in each branch channel and in bores (54). Exhaust grooves are provided in faces 15 and the face of shaft (41). |
