<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MPEG video decoder capable of preventing a buffer for storing a video stream from overflowing and/or under flowing in a reproduced moving picture, thereby enhancing easiness in seeing the picture. SOLUTION: When the amount Bm of data stored in a bit buffer 2 does not exceed a 1st threshold value BTH1, a picture read from the bit buffer 2 is transferred to a decode core circuit 4 independently of the type of picture. Furthermore, when the amount Bm is between the 1st threshold value BTH1 and a 2nd threshold value BTH2 and an I-picture or a P-picture is read from the bit buffer 2, the read picture is transferred to the decode core circuit 4, and when a B picture read, the picture is skipped. When the amount Bm exceeds the 2nd threshold value BTH2, the picture read from the bit buffer 2 is skipped independently of the type of picture.</p> |
