PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent signal leakage associated with magnetic domain wall displacement from the backside of the reproduction light spot. SOLUTION: A magneto-optical recording medium is formed by sequentially stacking at least a magnetic domain wall displacement layer 1, an intermediate layer 2 and a memory layer 3 which are magnetically exchange-coupled with each other at room temperature, and a magnetic domain formed in the memory layer 3 is transferred to the magnetic domain wall displacement layer 1. The intermediate layer 2 has a Curie temperature lower than those of other magnetic layers (1, 3), and also has a boundary temperature for a transition from a perpendicular magnetized film to an in-plane magnetization film higher than the room temperature. Compared with other magnetic layers (2, 3), the magnetic domain wall displacement layer 1 has smaller magnetic domain wall coercive force, and the displacement of the magnetic domain wall is possible near the Curie temperature of the intermediate layer 2.
