PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent generation of vibration of a vertical shaft pump due to uneven generation of the air bubbles with respect to the vanes inside a water intake pipe, in a device for sucking air from the atmospheric air into the water intake pipe of the vertical shaft pump. SOLUTION: Conventionally for the method of taking air into the water intake pipe of the vertical shaft, a method of connecting an air pipe to the water intake pipe provided under the vane for sucking air or a method of providing an air hole at the tip part or the upper end surface of a vortex flow preventing plate has been used. These methods have the problem of the air bubbles being not distributed sufficiently and for solving this problem, air holes are provided in both side surfaces of the vortex flow preventing plate.
