PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To eliminate field pattern noise caused by the variations of the dark level values of the respective elements of an image pickup part. SOLUTION: In the image reading apparatus for an image processor, which modulates a pixel signal transferred from a CCD 22 to an optical signal through an exposure part 200 and exposes a photosensitive material surface, the dark level of a CCD 22 is stored in a dark level storage part 331, and a gain control circuit 312 is adjusted at a level that the average of the dark level is a prescribed value by an adjusting part 313. In this state, the dark level of the part 331 is subtracted by a subtracter 333 from image data obtained by imaging an original image and guided to the part 200. The field pattern noise is eliminated by this subtraction processing.
