PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image communication unit that facilitates an operation of informing an opposite receiver about its own user abbreviation information in faxing. SOLUTION: The image communication unit able to communicate image information is provided with a fingerprint detection means that detects a fingerprint in the case of depressing a key to select the transmission, a fingerprint storage means that stores the fingerprint detected by the fingerprint detection means, a fingerprint/user abbreviation registration means that registers the fingerprint and the user abbreviation in cross-reference with each other, a user abbreviation selection means that selects the user abbreviation corresponding to the fingerprint detected by the fingerprint detection means from the fingerprint/user abbreviation registration means, and a user abbreviation attachment means that attaches the user abbreviation selected by the fingerprint selection means to the image information at the transmission of the image information.
