摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the generation of flicker and also to improve the aperture ratio. SOLUTION: The device has pixels 1 each of which is made of an electrode 3 which is arranged at each of the crossing points of multiple scanning lines 22 and multiple data lines 21, a switching element 2 which controls the voltage applied to every pixel electrode, liquid crystals held at each of the crossing regions of the multiple data lines and multiple scanning lines and an opposing electrode 4 which is oppositely arranged with respect to the pixel electrode. The device is provided with control signals to conduct a.c. driving while data are written into each of the pixels. Moreover, the device has a gamma converting circuit 13 to compensate for the data to be written into each of the pixels so that the optical characteristics of the pixels in a positive polarity segment and the optical characteristics of the pixels in a negative polarity segment become the same.
