PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radiation type heating furnace 2 capable of a high temperature heat treatment in which a central part in the widthwise direction and end parts can be uniformly heated to raise temperature without providing means for adjusting a temperature distribution in the widthwise direction of a strip 7 such as a temperature distribution adjusting mechanism in the widthwise direction of a belt type material. SOLUTION: To a charging port in the radiation type heating furnace having a radiation type heater, an auxiliary temperature raising furnace having a convection type heater for raising temperature so that the central part in the widthwise direction of a metal strip has temperature higher than those of both the ends. In the radiation type heating furnace, all areas of the metal strip are substantially equally heated, so that the temperature of all the metal strip in the widthwise direction is raised while the temperature difference between the temperature at the center in the widthwise direction and the temperate at both the ends is reduced by using a tendency that the temperature rising speed of the center in the widthwise direction of the metal strip is more accelerated than that at both the ends.
