PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel flat heating surface type gas cooker wherein inconvenience due to exposure of a flame is avoided, and cleaning and the like are facilitated, by enabling heating of a substance to be heated through a top plate made of heat resisting glass with a high heating efficiency sufficiently filling requirements of a practical use though it is a gas cooker. SOLUTION: The heating surface type gas cooker 10 is of a type that the top plate 12 made of heat resisting glass is situated above a burner 15. A gas permeable porous body 40 is situated below the top plate 12, and a space between the top plate 12 and the surface of the gas permeable porous body 40 forms a combustion space S. Combustion gas in the combustion space S is exhausted through the gas permeable porous body 40. Through passage of high temperature combustion gas through the gas permeable porous body 40, a radiant heat B is generated from the surface of the gas permeable porous body 40. Since the substance 4 to be heated is heated by both thermal conduction and radiation, high heating efficiency is obtained.
