PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing three-dimensional shape data capable of producing out of an NC program the three-dimensional shape data of a workpiece after machining. SOLUTION: The apparatus for producing three-dimensional shape data includes: a material grid producing part 11 which changes the workpiece into three-dimensional lattice point data L with a number of lattice points aligned in the directions of mutually perpendicular three axes and defines each lattice point using three-dimensional coordinates data and information about connections between those lattice points which adjoin to one another in the directions of the three axes; a tool path processing part 12 which produces data about the area of movement of a tool relative to the workpiece, based on the NC program, tool shape data and material shape data, and eliminates the lattice points in the area of movement of the tool while renewing information about the connections between the remaining lattice points; and a shape data producing part 15 which produces the three-dimensional shape data of the workpiece after machining.
