PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polycarbosilane containing a silylene group (-SiH2-) in the main chain, to provide a method for efficiently producing the same and to obtain an organic heat-resistant material obtained by using the same. SOLUTION: This polycarbosilane is represented by the following general formula (I) (-SiH2-R1-SiH2-R3-R2-R4-)n (I) (R1 and R2 are each a bifunctional group selected from an alkylene group, an arylene group and a bifunctional heterocyclic group which may be substituted, respectively; R3 and R4 are each an ethylenic double bond-containing group and the same or different bifunctional groups; n is an integer of 2-50,000; a part of -SiH2- in the formula may be substituted with -SiHR5- (R5 is an organic group containing a skeleton of the formula -SiHR5- (R5 is an organic group containing a skeleton of the formula- CH=CH-R2- or -C(=CH2)-R2-). The polycarbosilane represented by general formula (I) is obtained by a reaction between a bis(trihydrosilane) and a diyne compound in the presence of a Pd-based catalyst.
