METHOD OF PRODUCING RESOL TYPE PHENOL RESIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a resol type phenol resin with reduced inclusion of unreacted phenols and unreacted aldehydes in a high yield. SOLUTION: The process for producing resol type phenol resin comprises a step where phenols and aldehydes react with each other in the presence of an organic phosphonic acid to synthesize a phenol novolak resin and the following step where the resultant phenol novolak resin is reacted with aldehydes and converted into the resol form by an alkaline catalyst.
