The crank and connecting rod mechanism consists of a central fixed component (7) supporting two symmetrical cranks (1) situated symmetrically on either side and turning about a fixed axis (4). The central component also supports a block (18) with cylinders (8) and pistons (2) which are linked to the cranks by heads (17) and rods (16) pivoting about journals with mobile axes (5). The journals' axes are eccentric relative to the fixed axes (4) of the cranks by an amount (L) equivalent to the distance between the fixed axis (4) and the fixed axis of rotation (6) of the cylinder block, with all the axes lying parallel to one another.
