PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transmission system and method that reduces the communication charge by decreasing the transmission quantity of contents data sent to a mobile terminal. SOLUTION: The mobile terminal 11 such as a mobile phone downloads a program to expand compressed data from a carrier server 12 of a communication enterprise that provides a service to the mobile terminal 11 to access the Internet, the mobile terminal 11 accesses a site 15 of a contents provider on the Internet via the carrier server, the carrier server 12 compresses data transmitted from the contents provider to be sent to the mobile terminal 11, transmits the compressed data to the mobile terminal 11, and the mobile terminal 11 receiving the compressed data executes the expansion program to expand the compressed data.
