PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a searching device suitable for searching a document in accordance with a search intention of a user by using a synonym dictionary. SOLUTION: A document storing part 202 of the searching device 201 stores search objective documents. A synonym storing part 203 stores synonyms to a certain phrase. A frequency storing part 204 stores respective frequencies of the synonyms appearing in the search objective document. A search phrase input receiving part 205 receives input of a search phrase. A substituting part 206 substitutes the received search phrase with a synonym if the synonym has a frequency stored in the frequency storing part 204 larger than a predetermined high frequency threshold or smaller than a predetermined low frequency threshold (a value smaller than the high frequency threshold). A searching part 207 searches the search objective documents stored in the document storing part 202 by the substituted search phrase.
