PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a satisfactorily fixed image free from image slippage and irregularities in the image, in a fixing device for fixing a toner image by allowing an endless belt to abut on the outer peripheral surface of a heating and fixing roll and allowing a recording sheet carried with the toner image to pass through a gap between the heating and fixing roll and the endless belt. SOLUTION: The endless belt 75 is supported in a non-tensile state in a peripheral direction, and the belt 75 is allowed to abut on the peripheral surface of the heating and fixing roll 61 in a curved state. A pad type pressure applying member 71 is allowed to abut on the inner peripheral surface of the endless belt so as to pressurize the endless belt against the peripheral surface of the heating and fixing roll. A pressure member 76 is pressurized against the heating and fixing roll through the endless belt on the downstream side of a part where the endless belt is pressurized against the heating and fixing roll. Then, an elastic layer 63 formed near the peripheral surface of the heating and fixing roll is deformed, then, the recording sheet 67 is separated from the peripheral surface of the heating and fixing roll. Besides, it is allowable to stretch the endless belt by multiple rolls.
