PURPOSE:To produce a sintered potassium hexatitanate having high density and excellent mechanical strength by normal-pressure sintering process without using the operations such as the application of high pressure. CONSTITUTION:Hydrated potassium titanate powder having a TiO3/K2O molar ratio of >=6 and particle diameter of <=5mum is used as a sintering material. The powder is formed with a press and sintered at 1100-1400 deg.C. The obtained sintered material (having simple potassium hexatitanate phase or a composite crystal phase of potassium hexatitanate and titania) has a relative density of about >=80% and a flexural strength of about >=75MPa. It is useful as a refractory material, heat-insulation material, electrical insulation material, friction material and parts required to have high mechanical strength such as parts for electrical and electronic industry. |
