PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide highly-durable carrier, production thereof, developer, and image forming method whereby the occurrence of the spent carrier is prevented for a long time regardless of repeated copying and therefore a stable, high quality image free from base fog and scattering of toner is obtained. SOLUTION: The production of the carrier in which magnetic particles are coated with a silicone resin containing at least amino silane coupling agent involves a step of coating the magnetic particles with the silicone resin and then primarily baking the magnetic particles and a step of further coating the magnetic particles with the silicone resin and then secondarily baking the magnetic particles. The product of the temperature at which the carrier is baked and the time in the primary baking step and that in the secondary baking step have the following relationship: the product of the primary baking temperature and time <= the product of the secondary baking temperature and time.
