PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ground test machine and a ground test method capable of obtaining data concerning the settlement characteristic of ground. SOLUTION: The ground test machine 1 is provided with a rod 2, a load plate 3 projected so as to be vertically positioned by spirally spacing an upper edge 3a and a lower edge 3b on the lower end of the rod 2, a load mounting plate 4 projected orthogonally at the prescribed position of the rod 2 and a handle 5 fixed orthogonally on the upper end of the rod 2. In the ground test method, after the ground test machine 1 is vertically downward rotated and interpenetrated in the state that the load plate 3 is directed downward from the ground 15 and the load plate 3 is positioned at prescribed depth in the ground 16, a quantity of settlement of the ground test machine 1 is measured in the state that a weight 13 is mounted on the load mounting plate 4.
