摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell equipped with a conductive carrier structure which is weather resistant, mechanically strong and has open holes. SOLUTION: A fuel cell which contains a solid electrolyte layer 12 composes a plate compound layer system 1 together with two electrodes 11, 13. These layers are made by coating on a conductive carrier structure 10 with open holes with anode 11, electrolyte 12 and cathode 13 in this order one after another. While the fuel cell is generating electric current, this plate compound layer system 1 is exposed to an external environment 60 which contains oxygen molecules. The carrier structure material is in the status of being oxidized or reduced in a thermodynamical equilibrium at the operating temperature of the fuel cell dependent upon the environment. An external edge 16 of the compound layer plate is coated with inert substance. At the operation temperature of the fuel cell, this edge coating 126 forms a barrier to suppress or prevent oxygen molecules in the external environment 60 from moving inside the carrier structure. This substance, specifically, is zirconium dioxide stabilized by yttrium oxide Y2O3.
