PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a Bragg modulator also for modulation of unpolarized light. SOLUTION: The unpolarized light is modulated by using a first Bragg modulator for the establishment of the polarization plane of the unpolarized light, and the modulation of a light component corresponding to the polarization plane. A second Bragg modulator is used for the purpose of modulating the light component of the unpolarized light corresponding to the polarization plane orthogonal to the polarization plane of the first Bragg modulator.
