PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head wherein the magnetic field in the direction perpendicular to the surface of a recording medium, generated from a magnetic pole part, can be enhanced and recording density can be enhanced. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head is provided with a first and a second magnetic layers 8 and 14, a gap layer 9 provided between the first and the second magnetic layers 8 and 14 and a thin film coil 10, a part of which is provided between the first and the second magnetic layers 8 and 14. The second magnetic layer 14 has a magnetic pole part layer 14A, a yoke part layer 14B and a connection part 14C. The head is provided with a non-magnetic layer 15 provided on the side opposite to the gap layer 9 of the magnetic pole part layer 14A. The yoke part layer 14B is connected with the rear end surface of the magnetic pole part layer 14A and in the section including the connecting surface, the thickness of the yoke part layer 14B is thicker than the thickness of the magnetic pole part layer 14A.
