PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a linear motor at a low cost capable of making the permeance of a gap section into a sine wave and attaining high thrust and small cogging. SOLUTION: In the linear motor constituted of a rotor composed of permanent magnets which are disposed in a magnetic field yoke and have different polarities and a stator composed of an armature core formed by winding a multi-phase coil around the permanent magnet through an air gap, the shape of an armature core teeth section tip is made into one of a salient pole and the shape of the teeth section is determined so that the radius (r) of curvature of the teeth section tip lies within the range of 0.8w<=r<=1.2w.
