An adjustable jewelry assembly (10) comprises a releasable clamping device (100) and an elongate flexible member (20), such as a necklace or bracelet chain, that is releasably secured to the clamping device (100). The elongate flexible member (20) forms a loop portion (21) at one side of the clamping device and a pair of legs (22, 23) at an opposite side of the clamping devic e. The clamping device includes a cap (120, 130) and an insert (110) slidably mounted in the caps. The legs (22, 23) extend through openings (102a, 102b, 102c, 103a, 103b, 103c) in the caps and insert. A biasing member (140, 150) is located between the insert and each cap for biasing the caps away from the insert. At rest, the openings are misaligned and a shear force is applied to the legs, thereby securing the legs (22, 23) against slidable movement with respect to the clamping device (100). A cylindrical cover member (202) may b e received over the insert (110) and a portion of the caps. |
