An assay is provided for the identificaiton and compariosn of compounds haivng activity as modulators of the expression and release of TNF alpha alpha, IL-1 or IL-6 in humans and animals in which modulation of the catalytic activity of PRAK (p38-regulated/activated prtein kinase) is employed for identification and comparision of test compounds.
