Multimedia player with a housing (2) for insertion in a motor vehicle interior, with power connection (3), radio connection (4) and a connection (5) to a multimedia player. Encoded multimedia data is received over the radio connection, stored on a hard drive (6) and then decoded using a decoder (7) under the control of a control device (8). Once decoded the audiovisual data can be played on a video or audio player. The radio device is suitable for receiving near radio signals, i.e. DECT or LAN radio signals in the form of MPEG2 or MP3 signals that are stored or the hard drive for decoding prior to playback.
