PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device are provided to avoid cell gap ununiformity in a laminated substrate and to reduce the tact time. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device is equipped with an upper surface plate(31), a lower surface plate(34), an LCD device(10) prepared by laminating at least two glass substrates(2) with a specified gap and disposed between the upper and lower surface plates, supporting mechanisms to support the lower surface plate, and moving mechanisms(39, 40) to move the supporting mechanism. The supporting mechanism comprises a contact mechanism(36a) to be in contact with at least one side of the LCD device, an elastic mechanism(35) and a rigid body(37) supporting the contact mechanism and the elastic mechanism.
