AN AMMUNITION MAGAZINE FOR USE IN A FIREARM ADAPTED FOR FIRING NON-IMPACT DETONATED CARTRIDGES

An ammunition magazine (56) is proposed for a firearm adapted to fire non-impact ammunition cartridges. The ammunition magazine (56) also includes an elongated housing (978) for accommodating the ammunition cartridges and has a pair of edge members (986) formed along opposing lateral edges of the housing adjacent a bottom end, the housing (978) being selectively insertable into a magazine chamber formed in the firearm frame. An end cap (980) is equipped with a pair of groove members (987) formed along opposing lateral edges and adjacent a top end for selectively accommodating the pair of edge members and enabling the end cap (980) to be secured to the bottom end of the housing (978). The ammunition magazine (56) further includes a blind bore (989) formed in the end cap for accommodating a battery (979). The blind bore (989) has an open longitudinal end facing the top end of the end cap (980), as well as an outwardly extending electrical contact pad (991) which is in electrical communication with a closed end of the blind bore. The contact pad (991) abuts and is in electrical communication with a backstrap module when the end cap (980) is mated with the housing (978) and the housing (978) is inserted into the magazine chamber.
